Hi, DSP blog readers! I’m Jeff Adams author of “The Dancer & Sexy Big Man,” which published today. I’m excited to have my second story published with Dreamspinner (“Rivals” is still available in case you haven’t picked up that one).
“The Dancer & Sexy Big Man” was conceived towards the end of season six of So You Think You Can Dance, which aired in the fall of 2009. I liked the idea of setting a romance inside a show like SYTYCD but I didn’t want to make the couple be two of the contestants because it seemed too obvious. I toyed with making it between a dancer and an audience member, but then I decided to go with someone on the show’s tech crew. Once I had that sorted out, I was off and running with the concept.
There’s quite a few musical references in the story, some of which are specifically called out and some that are only alluded to. When I was writing, however, I knew exactly what was playing even if I didn’t include the reference. Here’s the full playlist for the story with links to iTunes so you can sample the songs (note that the page numbers are based on the PDF).
Now you know all the music that makes up the story. If you pick it up I hope you enjoy it. If you check out any of the music, I hope you find something you like and maybe even something that is new for you.
