Wanted, NEEDED, more... nothing really noteworthy.

Two good-looking guys standing kind of back-to-back to one another, they're blended into an orangey-rust picturesque background. Cover would be enough to snag my attention and read the synopsis. Synopsis sounded like it would be a lot of fun to read.

Jimmy and Toby were childhood friends. Both had daddy issues. Once they'd graduated, they broke off communication inexplicably and never touched base again. Five years later, they'd both recently had a major upheaval in their life and are now - coincidentally - deciding that a road trip to destination unknown is the solution to the aftermath of their woes. Lo and behold, they run into one another at a random bus stop and one immediately recognizes the other and suggest - after five years of radio silence from their supposed best friend since first grade - that they become travel companions.
I really wanted to like this story, the plot concept had great potential, but the characters were not strong and barely rememberable. The plot was rather flat, too. Maybe it was due to the shorter book length, but I felt no connection to the characters and the plot felt shallow or one-dimensional. I'd hoped for more emotion and depth. Some of the choices, actions, decisions did not make sense so it was hard to empathize with the characters.
Secondary cast was mentioned but there was no interaction on-page.
Sex scenes were frequent and textbook detailed. Conflicts were handled in a variety of ways but most issues should have been past tense and, again, others were handled in ways that were questionable. Predictability was on par with a story like this. The conclusion provided a hopeful HEA.
Overall, I think it needed a little more... more to the story, more depth and element. As is, it was only a mediocre experience. The writing was clean and fluid, so that was nice.
