Hello Dreamers!
I always mention Stephen King when I’m asked about mentors and authors who have influenced me as a writer. From his advice on writing – which boils down to it’s a job and you have to put your butt in the chair – to his actual writing, he is a powerhouse.
But I don’t think I’ve ever shared a list of my favorite King books. So here it is without further ado and in no particular order:
1. The Dead Zone – this was the first King novel I ever read and it sparked a lifelong obsession.
2. Night Shift – this collection of short stories proves you don’t have to write a novel to create a scary story. My favorite of the stories in this anthology is Quitters Inc.
3. Pet Sematary – this was the first book that put a literal chill up my spine
4. The Stand – super long and meaty
5. Misery – first book I ever put down two chapters in, then less than an hour later had to pick it back up again (HAD to) and I didn’t put it down until it was finished, only to find it was now the middle of the night.
