Hey, everyone! I’m C.S. Poe and I wanted to share with you my Top 5 Favorite Museums. Do you like to visit museums when you travel? What are some of your favorites? Do you enjoy traditional museums, or something a bit more out of the ordinary?
- Museum of Sex: The Museum of Sex in New York City is an awesome (and naughty) learning experience. From obscene images of the 1800’s to the sex life of animals, there’s something to inspire every visitor. And if none of the exhibits strike your fancy, the sex shop/gift shop probably will.
- Audubon House and Tropical Gardens: The Audubon House and Tropical Gardens in Key West is a gorgeous, three-story home that belonged to a ship captain during the mid-1800’s. (Audubon did briefly visit once upon a time, but I don’t think he’s quite as interesting as the family that lived there was.) It has fascinating history, a bit of lore, and the gardens are full of plants you’d expect to see in paradise.
- The Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Met is my absolute favorite stop in all of New York City. With art and artifacts from ancient Egypt, classical antiquity, arms and armor of medieval Europe and Japan, European paintings, and more, there is quite literally a corner of the globe for every visitor.
- American Museum of Natural History: For those more into nature and science, but still digging the New York City vibe, this is my other home away from home. Incredible exhibits on animals, lots of dinosaur fossils, and killer halls on human origins and planetary science! So much to learn, so little time.
- National Museum of Nature and Science: If you ever visit the Ueno district in Tokyo, you’ve definitely got to check out their science museum. Similar structure to the AMNH, but with emphasis on nature surrounding the Japanese islands, how humanity flourished on the other side of the world, and a showcase of inventions from the Edo period onward. It’s an absolutely gorgeous museum!
