This year:  The Ring

Ker is gifted with true seeing, but until he goes to work for detective Dexter Wylie, he rarely uses his gift. What Ker hasn't seen is that his boss hunts down "Hell jumpers," souls that have escaped from the afterlife and come back to try to reclaim their lives. Ker wants no part of that business, but he's enthusiastic about detective work, and talks Dex into teaching him how to be a detective by taking some real world cases.

His first case is a kidnapped wife, who can spin straw into gold, and stolen artifact. While Ker tracks down leads and follows his hunches, Dex gets charged to bring in a particularly slippery jumper. And in the middle of everything, the agency gets a case that will pit them against the gods of Valhalla.
