Although it almost doesn’t seem possible, the obstacles and adversity Seth and Bryce have to face in this series are getting worse in each installment. It all began on a cruise Seth and his partner, Mark, had booked before Mark suddenly died and Bryce went on the cruise with Seth. In book two they had to deal with coming home to “reality”, plus face not only the fact that Marks’ death was ruled a suicide, meaning no insurance money for Seth, but that the insurance investigator in charge of the ruling turned out to be Bryce’s ex and a total sociopath. Now they have to deal with the aftermath, and the fact that Owen has still not been arrested or even found. The suspense was high before I even opened the book!

Seth and Bryce are pretty solid as a couple by now, and I think that’s the only reason they manage to deal with and survives all the author throws at them in this third volume. The insurance company still does not admit Mark was killed rather than having taken his own life, but they are prepared to pay a lot of money as compensation for their employee’s crimes. That solves Seth’s financial issues, but it also makes Owen very determined to get a cut of the money – which, for some weird reason, he believes he is entitled to. 

When Owen goes off the rails even more spectacularly than ever before, Seth and Bryce’s lives are threatened. They need all their strength as well as the help of friends and family to survive, and had they not been so sure of each other and the love they share, I don’t think they would have made it. Seth has truly grown into his own man and goes from strength to strength. Yes, he is afraid and he isn’t always sure what to do, but he shows a level of courage and determination that he acquired through hard work and the trust Bryce has in him. Bryce is as supportive as ever, and dealing with Owen’s attacks has strengthened him as well. This quote describes their development as a couple perfectly: “Like soldiers who’d endured and survived months of attack, Seth and Bryce had witnessed each other under duress and emerged victorious in every way.”

If you like stories about characters who clearly belong together but have to face outside forces that come close to tear them apart, if you believe that men whose love is tested can emerge even stronger, and if you’re looking for a read that is highly suspenseful, emotional, moving, and contains many intimate and loving moments in between constant attacks, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. It’s a wild, action-packed ride that kept me on the edge of my seat.
